So this white ensemble includes mermaid dress with sweep train and detachable ball gown satin skirt. Extra measurement from heel to end of sweep train is needed. 

For detachable heavy satin ball gown skirt, it features chapel train, so extra measurement from back of heel to end of chapel train is need.

It is a good idea to add buttons over zipper on the ball gown skirt to echo the buttons back of mermaid dress. 

How about we add lace peplum in the red area above the pockets?

Do you mean remove the lace peplum? I am afraid not, as it was sewn on the detachable overskirt. Thank you!

Yes, we can add buttons and short the peplum. 

Button-up back does not fit your dress, because the back of your dress was made of sheer tulle instead of lace fabric, tulle would be easy snagged, and the most important thing is your hip would be exposed. So buttons over zipper is better than the button-up. Please let me know your thoughts!

Actually in my opinion, this original peplum would be more beautiful than that mini length peplum. As your detachable overskirt and train give us a decorous feeling, original peplum matches this decorous feeling, but the mini length peplum can not. So please just consider it.
